Our Mission."ASME’s mission is to serve diverse global communities by advancing, disseminating and applying engineering knowledge for improving the quality of life; and communicating the excitement of engineering."
- ASME National Mission Statement |
“ASME is a not-for-profit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods. Founded in 1880 by a small group of leading industrialists, ASME has grown through the decades to include more than 100,000 members in 140+ countries. Thirty-two thousand of these members are students.
From college students and early-career engineers to project managers, corporate executives, researchers and academic leaders, ASME’s members are as diverse as the engineering community itself. ASME serves this wide-ranging technical community through quality programs in continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations and other forms of outreach.” – ASME National “Who We Are”

We want to see students succeed
At ASME UMD, we believe that engineering is as much a way of life as it is a career path. Hands on engineering opportunities are a critical part of any engineering education. Because of this, we dedicate ourselves to helping the Clark School’s students become better engineers through career and project opportunities.
We also host social opportunities both within mechanical engineering and outside of it, to help foster a community within the Clark School. This isn’t just for fun either; a community is needed in the engineering school so that students may better understand and support one another in their studies and lives. At its heart, engineering is a team activity.
